UNIVERSITY (SPECIAL PROVISIONS) ACT, 2005
(As introduced in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly on 22nd September, 2005 " Published in the Tamil Nadu Government Gazette, Extraordinary, Part IV, Section 1, Iss. No.206, pages 38-39, dated September 22, 2005).
Be it enacted by the Legislative Assembly of the State of Tamil Nadu in the Fifty-Sixth Year of the Republic of India as follows:-
1. Short title and commencement.
" (1) This Act may be called the
(Special Provisions) Act, 2005.
(2) It shall be deemed to have come into force on the 30th day of September 1996.
2. Tamil Nadu Act 28 of 1996 not to alter certain references.
" Notwithstanding anything contained in the City of Madras (Alteration of Name) Act, 1996 (Tamil Nadu Act 28 of 1996) (hereinafter referred to as the said Act), the provisions of Section 3 of the said Act shall not alter, "
(a) the short title of the Madras University Act, 1923 (Tamil Nadu Act VII of 1923) (hereinafter in this Section referred to as the 1923 Act);
(b) the name of the University constituted under Section 3 of the 1923 Act.
(c) the reference to the Madras University (Amendment) Act, 1966 in the 1923 Act (Tamil Nadu Act 2 of 1966); and
(d) the reference to "University of Madras", "Madras University" and the "Madras University Act" in the 1923 Act or in any other enactment, statute, regulation, ordinance, by-law, rule, scheme, order, notification or in any other instrument having the force of law in the whole or any part of the State of Tamil Nadu.
3. Construction or reference to "University of Chennai", "Chennai University" and "Chennai University Act". -
Reference to "University of Chennai", "Chennai University" and "Chennai University Act" in any Act or in any rule, notification, proceeding, order, regulation, by-law or other instruments made or issued under such Act, shall be construed as references to "University of Madras", Madras University" and "Madras University Act", respectively.
